The project investigated the problems and opportunities associated with producing an electronic resource of East Asian texts. The textual resource thus created was made available in two forms: (a) the original Japanese text; and (b) an English language translation. Since the East Asian languages have undergone significant modification during the past one hundred years, it may be necessary in future to incorporate a third form. That is to say: (a) the original text; (b) a modern translation; and (c) an English language translation.

The provision of multiple versions of the same text enables scholars to investigate the practical application of linguistic shifts from premodern to modern, as well as the alteration over time of, in particular, literary texts.
