My Lord.
The last I wrote unto your Honour was from Basel the 30th of Septemb. therin you understood the state of my busines as then it was advanced: but I could not get my dispatch from thence till the 18t of October; by reason of some incident lets[H alters]; wherewith the Chief man of the Ministerie of that place, did a little Clogge the proceeding for privat designes, which neverthelesse will prove; & did then also occasionally proove an advantage to the worke. I have given to Mr Secretary a particular narrative of the whole treatie in that place dated from hence the 31th. of October. by it you will bee able to see wherin[H alters from wherint] the advantage then was gained; which since hath fitted me the better to deale with <right margin, H: those that are here, who had some doubts and scruples of the same nature with> those which hath possessed the Spirits of those of Basel; but the way to prevent their effect here (which could not then <bee> used there) & to cleer them, was used; wherunto God hath given a blessing, for I am now dispatched from hence also; with as much advantage, as I could in the present state of the present Busines desire: so that the foure chief & leading Cantons, Zurich, Berne, Basel, & Schaphusen, are now fully possessed with the worke & engaged to cooperat in a Gospell way therin according to the Principles, which wee have laid, & the meanes wee have agreed upon; in the use & application of which they are obliged to maintaine one with another & with us a religious correspondencie; & to bring all their Resolutions into one Center, that from henceforth they may proceed as one man in the Busines, they are about to give me a Common Declaration in the name of all, which will bee a ground for me to represent unto his Highness & the Parlament that which I shall desire maybee

while to improove it, it tends to shew upon what termes they would have the rent removed & unitie professed: which are briefly these 1. That wee should hold forth our agreement in fundamentall truths. 2. That wee should reiect errors destructive to the foundation. 3. That a mutuall Toleration should bee used in ceremoniall matters. 4. That a cleer way of dealing without ambiguities should bee used in the expression of the agreement. 5. That the errors condemned should not bee suffered to spread againe. 6. That needles disputes should bee awoided. 7. That former reproaches & injuries should bee silenced & put to oblivion. 8. That the Apostolicall Rules[H capitalises] of walking in societies under ordinances may bee setled & observed. These eight conditions as demands from the Church of Sweden requisite to settle a Religious correspondencie amongst Protestants; I have beginne to propose here to the Chief leading men to move[H alters] them to think theron, to declare their liking of them, & to forecast how the agreement may bee setled according

come to some solemne treatie & ratification of our unitie, in the bond of Peace. This overture[H alters from ouverture] from Sweden hath thus opened my thoughts, & drawen them forth to prepare these men towards a more distinct application of our Generall way unto these objects; & this I [
