          To make Letten of a Siluer Colour <Hartlib: How to make Brasse of a Silver Colour. From Mr Ramsay's German. Translated out of high-dutch.>
Take ยด ounce if fine siluer, & dissolue it in Aqua fortis then put a handfull of salt therin, which will precipitat it, then wash it, & let it dry; then take one ounce of sal [armoniake?] then one ounce glas gall # <left margin: that is Fell-vitri> & one ounce sall gemme & one dragme of Mercurie sublimat, & [word deleted] rubbe it very small with a little cleane water upon a marble stone, till it bee prettie thick like butter, then all is prepared.
then when you haue boiled your materiall Cleane with tartar & salt & well [word deleted] scraped as is usuall, then with a pencill lay it on as thick as you will: & lay it upon liue coales & turne it oft times; & when it becomes liquid & flowes or runnes as that which is wette, then quenche it in water prepared with tartar & salt: & if the colour doth not please you, lay it againe upon the coales & quenche it againe or seeth it therin, & scrape it cleane according to the Custome.
