          To his Excellency the Lord Cromwell General
          of the Parliaments forces of the Commonwealth
          of England.
The humble petition of Iames Ogillbye your Excellency's prisoner
[It?] sheweth:
That having by the blessing of God and my [very?] great paines brought to perfection an easy way (by an new Invented Engine for the Drawing up of Coales Iron Lead or other weighty and bulky matters out of the Earth which if put to in practise will tend exceedingly much to the good and benfit of the Commonwealth in Generall & to the great advantage of such perticular coale masters or others as shall have occasion to make vse of the same which (if not by your Excellency's favour to in procuring my freedome prevented) is like to perish I being by my present Condition disinabled to set the said Invention agoing.
     The which consideration togeather with the presentment of the foresaid Invention to the free Disposall of this Commonwealth hath encouraged me to beg your Excellency passe into my Countrie desiring only some small consideration for the aforesaid new Invented-Engine when it shall [have?] approved itselfe soe benficiall as aforesaid.
               All Which being favourably granted wil
             obleige your Excellency's Petitioner
                    Ever to pray for your Excellency's
                    well being and for the good of
                    his Commonwealth which he shall
                    engage to serve.
