Reverend & worthy Sir
Being come hither I am informed that some evill reports have beene spread of mee amongst our Countrymen: the particulars I have not beene able to learne, but in Generall I am told, that evill suspitions are conceived strongly of mee. I did judge so much by the booke which I saw in Germany, wherein I am ranked amongst those of the Canterburian instruments which are said to vndermine the state of the Reformed Churches. but I vse not to bee much troubled at such jealousies, as having a good Conscience, & knowing that a peaceable Christian, & one that will keepe a good Conscience, must needs go through good & evill reports, & will not bee free from persecution also, if his zeale bee worth the trying, yet I am loath to neglect apparent meanes of cleering my innocency towards such as are able to judge of the grounds of matters & to informe others; therefore I addresse my selfe at this time to yow, having heard that yow are in England; & desire yow not to beleeve easily flying reports, or your owne conjectures taken vpp from probabilitie. If yow will see the true aime, & the meanes to attaine therevnto in my worke, hee by whom I addresse these vnto yow wilbee able to give yow information thereof; & will let yow see the Petition, which I put to the Parliament, whence your sagacitie judging charitably wilbee able to gather the truth of my intention, which I hope yow wilbee forward to assist [catchword: towards]

towards the Church of Scotland, if the Frost keepe mee long heere[altered], I purpose to send yow a more speciall delineation of the way of proceeding, which hath beene proposed to the Lutherans against which none hath as yet excepted any thing; but I wish rather I could speake with yow my selfe, for I am full of matter by reason of the extraordinary change, which Gods gracious Providence hath so vnexpectedly wrought amongst vs. The Lord cause the spirit of peace & vnity in his love & feare, through the truth of his Gospell established in both kingdomes to rest vppon yow. in him I bidd yow farwell & will remaine.
                        your loving & affectionat friend
                         & servant in Christ Iesus.
