Tin-glazed earthenware vessel with lobed, pierced handles. Vessel has painted blue decoration which is typical of delftware of this period. The bowl's decoration is reminiscent of contemporary Chinese Wan-li decoration, also known as Kraak after the vessels that transported them, of panels of stylised decoration separated by vertical lines surrounding a central roundel containing a bird of prey. The catalogue states 'Although vessels of this general form are not uncommon in the Netherlands, they are usually decorated with the virgin and child. The hawk motif is highly unusual.'
Similar vessels are known in the Netherlands, but are usually decorated with a virgin and child as opposed to a hawk motif.
