Wine-bottle; tin-glazed earthenware; painted in blue with arms of Pewterers' Company, inscription and date.
Inscription: IOHN SMITH AND MARGERI 1650
Position: around the coat of arms on the globular body
Painted under the glaze in cobalt blue
Probably a marriage gift. A John Smith, freeman of the Pewterers' Company, married Margery Dunch at Newmarket All Saints in 1650 and this bottle may perhaps have been for them.
