[Taken from catalogue entry]
A London delft blue and white porringer, dated 1696. With pierced handle, inscribed ‘E*E/1696’, within a foliate cartouche.
Porringers are shallow bowls with flat, horizontal handles. They can be found in various materials including wood, ceramics, pewter and silver.
Single handled porringers such as this were produced solely for the English market as they were not used in continental Europe, where two handles were preferred.
