Quart- wine (?)
[Taken from catalogue entry]
Pewter baluster wine measure with waisted profile, curved handle and hinged flat lid with ball and wedge thumb-piece.
Marked with crowned 'HR'.
Volume/capacity 0.875l
[capacity of 875ml does not conform easily to any of the official capacities, but is closest to a wine quart (946ml). The equivalent gallon for the vessel is 213.6 cubic inches, which is roughly comparable to a gallon at the Guildhall, London that was approximately 224 cubic inches (see Connor 1987, Weights and Measures of England, 158). It is thus most probably an unofficial measure, based on eight Avoirdupois pounds of wine].
