May it please your good worships your poor petitioner heretofore about a year since did brew and kept alehouse in Deansgate in Manchester only for her maintenance being left by her husband with three small children and an aged woman, and so long as she brewed did maintain them all without any charge to the Town, but about Whitsunday last your petitioner was commanded to forbear to brew any longer which she hath performed… Your poor petitioner humbly prayeth that your good Worships will be pleased to grant your petitioner a licence to brew upon good bonds for the performance of that the law requires or else that some course may be speedily taken for the petitioner's children's relief as to equity and justice shall appertain and your petitioner shall daily pray for your worships' long life and happiness.
