Sir, I made bold to write, and inform you, and by you the bench at the last sessions at Ormskirk of an intendment then not put in practice by one Henry Gerrard of Brindle to keep alehouse, which now he doth, and hath (all ever since) done, and brewed ale to sell without licence, as I hope the Constable of the town can and will inform you and the bench; Informing you further, of the inconvenience of that house to be an alehouse, in respect that the wife of the said Henry Gerrard is and long time hath been a... woman for incontinence; even almost to the undoing of her present husband who lately married her even within a little time after the death of her first husband Nicolson, in whose lifetime they were noted of much lewdness of life and company together, and so hoping that you and the bench will take into consideration the quiet of our neighbours, their children, and servants, which is too much troubled by too many such houses already. I commit you to god, And rest, your loving friend, James Anderton.
