Humbly showeth unto your worships, that whereas your poor petitioner for the space of thirty years and upwards last past, hath continued malt making, and after he had been a great charges, in building a kiln... and such provision for making of malt (according to order of Licence to him granted) by the entreaty of, and for the good of his poor customers, made charges to build up a little hand mill, for grinding of such small portion of malt as he made, by reason oftentimes they could not procure the same ground... for their brewing; but may it please your worships your orator understandeth, information is made to suppress your petitioner's said practice contrary to his said order of licence to him in that behalf granted… The premises considered, and in tender and conscionable consideration that your petitioner being old, infirm and impotent, not having any other means for maintaining of his wife, children, and family, and only a small cottage... and part of a shop wherein every market day he vendeth some small commodities, your worships will be pleased to admit him (as formerly he hath had) authority for the aforesaid practice; and your orator will as in duty bound... pray for your worship's long continuance.
