Showeth that whereas your petitioner about one year since keeping alehouse and having a purpose, and so declared himself, that he would succease; some soldiers who heard thereof, and conceiving that your petitioners house stood in an open way for their refreshment, in their marches and returns to and from Lathom (then besieged) the same soldiers threatened your petitioner, that if he gave over brewing they would take all he had whereupon he bought one load of malt, which Cost him 29s, which he intended to brew, and so to cease; (that shortly after he received warning from the Constables to successe, and did not well know what to do with his malt, whereupon he brewed only the half thereof, and kept the other in his house, not long after, and before any part was sold or drunk, the said Constables with other their assistance bame unto your petitioner's house, and took from him all the drink then brewed together with the other half load of malt, and disposed thereof, according to their own wills… The premises considered your petitioner humbly prayeth your good worships to set down some good order whereby your petitioner May have some recompense (if not for his drink yet for his malt). And your petitioner will ever pray etc.
