The humble and earnest petition of the inhabitants of Little Lever and Darcy Lever: showeth unto your good Worships that your petitioners have for some years past been troubled with some unnecessary alehouses which tended much to the dishonour of God the spoiling of youth and the nursery for sin and wickedness, and whereas our alehouses kept (for example to the rest) was proceeded legally against at the last quarter sessions holden at Manchester for keeping misorder contrary to the statute in that case provided) and your good Worships causing justice to be done upon the person so offending (for which your petitioners return all humble and hearty thanks) since which time the said inhabitants (your petitioners) have by experience found much good and quietness in that there hath not been any alehouse in the said hamlets, wherefore your petitioners most humbly further crave and desire your good worships in regard we conceive there is not any necessity either for travellers or poor people which necessity is all the law takes notice of that you would be pleased not to licence any within the said hamlets. And your petitioners as in duty bound will ever pray for your worships' health and happiness long to continue.
