Showeth that your petitioner at his being in Ireland being of a very considerable estate worth £50... but in pursuance of the enemy's violence against all English protestants was compelled to fly into England for safeguard of his own; his wife and one child... lost in the said Kingdom all his whole estate sithence not having any other means of trading to maintain himself wife and family saw on his brewing ale to sell thereby to beget a small living for them doth therefore humbly pray that your good Worships would be pleased in commiseration of your supplicant's old age together that the Kingdom of England hereabouts being very slender for trading for a joiner and for that his family is much increased that your good Worships would be pleased to grant him your worships' licence thereby to sell ale to relieve himself and family, he living in the road and your petitioner as is duty bound shall truly pray for your good Worships.
