The humble petition of the inhabitants of Garstang market Town. Showeth that whereas the late Queen Elizabeth of famous memory by her grant under the great seal of England did grant licence of buying and selling of all things within the said Town of Garstang without exception by reason of privileges formerly granted to the Abbot of Cockersand and to their tenants whose your petitioners then were and now belonging to the hospital of Savoy as by divers grants from Edward the Second and other ordinances of Parliament since his time may appear, notwithstanding may it please your good worships so it is that of late time without warning your same petitioners have been presented or indicted or otherwise troubled for brewing without licence and have not been formerly called to take licence by the reasons aforesaid whereupon from hence more quiet they have and such fees as was required... nevertheless are further troubled for the same causeā¦ May it therefore please your good worships the premises considered to take into your worship's consideration the grant of Edward the fourth the Ordinance of Parliament the liberties of Monasteries and Abbeys the grants to the savoy Queen Elizabeth's grant to the Town of Garstang compared with the statute of Edward the Sixth wherefore your petitioners most humbly pray that your worships would be pleased to make some order therein for your petitioner's relief and that all presentments or indictments by past may be made null and ordered for the future and they will ever pray etc.
