That your worships' poor petitioner hath not anything whereupon to maintain himself and his poor wife and four small children with all but what he earneth by hard labour and great pains taking: and that your petitioner's wife and his said four children were all born and brought up in Aspull aforesaid: and that your petitioner and his wife and children have lived in a little poor Cottage in Aspull aforesaid under one Ralph Higham (who is gone a soldier in the State's service, under Captain Goodman for Ireland) and under Margaret Higham widow Mother of the said Ralph (of whom he took the same) above these seven years: But so it is that one John Law a piper of Aspull aforesaid doth continually when he is foxed (or drunk) at his coming home (being in the other end of the said Cottage) come to your petitioner's part of the Cottage and sorely threateneth and abuseth your worships' said petitioner to the great terrifying and danger of the wife and children and of your petitioner himself the said Low bidding your petitioner come forth and swore he would kill him: and thereupon hath pulled down the walls and part of the great timber at which time the poor wife and children (by God's providence) were very narrowly preserved from being slain or lamed the most or all of them: besides other great abuses which if your worships will be pleased but to peruse a note which your petitioner hath in his hand will certify your worships more at large and will be deposed unto if need require. And if the said Law (who is a Papist delinquent) be not by your worships restrained your petitioner and his wife and poor children must either be in continual danger of their Lives or turned to the world although your petitioner was commanded by the said Widow Higham to stick in it: and also the said Ralph Higham charged your petitioner to stick in it till his return from Ireland… Wherefore your petitioner humbly craveth that your worships will be pleased to commiserate his condition: and that upon serious consideration hereof he may have your Worships' Order for his abode in the said Cottage: and also that he and his family by some means freed from the danger of the said John Law his hands: and in duty bound not only your petitioner with his wife and children but all other good people hearing of your pity towards them will ever pray for your worships' health and eternal happiness.
