Showeth that your petitioner having taken a house in Salford of a great rent which hath for many years last past been kept an inn or alehouse for the entertainment of diverse Country people from several places on the Market day in Manchester and other times as their occasions were, since which your petitioner taking of the same he hath been moved and importuned by divers and sundry of the said Country people ad others to provide and keep the like house for their entertainment as had been there kept, at whose instance and request your petitioner hath provided such rooms and lodgings and made other provision fit for such guests and their horses, likewise being thereunto encouraged by most of the considerable neighbours who have hereunto subscribed their hands conceived the house a fit place to continue for that purpose it had been formerly used to and that your Worships would grant your petitioner your licence for the sameā¦ May it therefore please your Worships to consider a convenience that will thereby accrue to the Country people according to their desires as aforesaid and the approbation of the several neighbours being near thereunto, to grant your petitioner your worships' licence to brew ale and beer in the same house whereby he may without fear or danger go on to make such further provision as may be fit for the receiving and entertaining of such as may have occasion to make use of the said house in that kind and your petitioner will pray etc.
