That your petitioners about the beginning of March last were hired by Alexander Greene of Liverpool merchant to carry for him the said Alexander two cart loads of wine from Liverpool to Preston in Amounderness, that in Eccleston near Croston one Thomas Waring of Eccleston shoemaker stopped them the said petitioners and their teams in a lane called the old Lane in Eccleston aforesaid and locked up the same way whereby your petitioners were much hindered in their journey... the premises considered may it please your worships to order the same way if it be a highway to be laid open, and that your petitioners may pass hereafter without interrogation, or if it be not a highway to order the township of Eccleston to sufficiently repair the highway which is very much in decay and ruin insomuch that in winter it is unpassable either with cart or horse and your petitioners will ever pray etc.
