Transcription
We whose names are underwritten make bold to certify that Henry Ashton gent and James Taylor yeomen who kept two great inns in our town of Blackrod are both gone to inhabit elsewhere and given over innkeeping and their houses stand empty of entertainment whereupon we the subscribed inhabitants do think fit to represent unto your worships James Watnough of our said town for an honest man and of civil conversation to be licenced to brew ale and beer to sell both as well for the accomodation of such remote persons as resort to our parochial chapel on Sundays as also for wayfaring men lying in the great road twix Manchester and Preston.
