Transcription
Whereas there is one William Denton of Widnes who keepeth a common alehouse within Widnes who hath for anything we ever heard carried himself very honestly and lovingly amongst his neighbours and hath ever been a soldier for the king without any turning and hath ever been true and faithful to his Majesties And now is like to be troubled because he was not bound for not eating flesh in his house in the Lent time we whose names are subscribed do make bold to certify that at that time the rest of the alehouses were bound he was not able to go forth of his doors nor of a month after and that we verily believe that he hath observed Lent in forbearing of eating flesh as well as any alehouse in all the town hath done. Certified by us.
